7 best whisky bottles, between Rs 2,000 and Rs 8,000, to stock up on for the winter season
Winter in India (or at least parts of it) warrants whisky to warm up the soul. From fiery cinnamon blends to sweet and creamy variants that embody the spirit of the season — a whisky a day keeps the cold at bay. It's time to embrace the nip, both in the air and in your bar, but for that you need to stock up ahead. To this end, we've curated a list of bottles to collect before temperatures begin to drop for real.
1. Paul John Bold
With 46 per cent alcohol by volume (ABV), the Paul John Bold has a silky, honeyed, spicy and overtly smoky feel which coats the roof of the mouth and fills the palette with a pleasing blend of dry molasses, peaty soot and a degree of copper.
2. Teacher's Highland Cream Blended Scotch Whisky
This delicious whisky has rich, smoky undertones and a silky texture that carries dominant traces of apples, rich peat smoke, honey, sweet malt and creamy vanilla — flavours of Christmas, if you will.
3. Jack Daniel's Tennessee Fire
What better way to fire up your insides on a chilly day than with this flavoursome cinnamon liqueur that carries notes of toasted wood, roasted nuts, and vanilla beans, as well as spicy undercurrents of ground cinnamon, delicate cinnamon bark, and spicy clove.
4. GianChand Single Malt Whisky
While it's only available in Delhi, Jammu, Uttarakhand, and Leh, this award-winning Indian whisky has a delightful flavour profile. It carries traces of pineapple drop candy and dominating notes of barley, vanilla, and thin oils.
5. Aberlour 12-Year-Old
Matured in both sherry casks and bourbon casks, the Aberlour 12-Year-Old is a full-bodied whisky that has a spicy, Christmas cake nuance to it — making it a perfect stock up option for the winter season. It carries traces of cinnamon, vanilla and raisins.
6. Johnnie Walker Double Black
If you're looking for a sweet and smoky scotch that embodies the season's whimsical mood, then the Johnnie Walker Double Black, with its creamy sweetness, hints of soft wood smoke, salty butter, custard and cereal grains, is the way to go
7. Laphroaig 10 Sherry Oak
Finished in oloroso sherry casks, this rich, smoky and honeyed 10-year-old single malt contains aromas of Manuka honey, clove, smoked bacon, leather and pine tar, and traces of treacle, wax, toffee, maple syrup, dark chocolate, pine needles, chestnut honey and rich peat smoke on the palette.
